Vocational Swedish

Are you experienced within a certain profession? You might not have worked at all, or only worked a little in Sweden. On our Vocational Swedish course you learn the Swedish you need to work in your chosen profession, or to allow you to go on to further studies in Sweden. Parts of the course can be carried out at a workplace alternated with theory lessons at Eductus.

Learn Swedish! We offer various kinds of courses in the Swedish language. If you are new to Sweden, we offer the Swedish for immigrants (SFI). We also offer Swedish as a Second Language (SAS) at both basic and intermediate level.

What additional skills do you need to get the job you want? Eductus was established in 1991 and is now one of Sweden’s largest adult education companies. We know what works!

We offer courses in Swedish: Swedish for immigrants (SFI), Swedish as a Second Language (SAS) and Vocational Swedish.

If you are registered with Arbetsförmedlingen (Public Employment Service), you will have the opportunity to enrol on one of our vocational training courses. We also offer Komvux (adult education) courses and training.We offer adult education at both basic and intermediate level.

Komvux – Basic adult education

For people who need to supplement their education at a basic level and gain the skills for progressing to intermediate level.

About the courses

Basic adult education involves taking courses at a basic (compulsory school) level.  The courses correspond to the kind of education provided by compulsory schooling in Sweden for children in school years 1–9 (ages 7–16). However, the content and structure of the courses are adapted for adults. You will be encouraged to work more independently and take responsibility for your studies. You can take the courses on a full- or part-time basis, during the day or in the evenings. Just pick the alternative that suits you best! Take a single course or several subjects at the same time. You can combine your studies with other kinds of adult education courses (intermediate adult education and SFI) and with a job or internship. 

Your educational goals are determined by your existing level of knowledge. You will have access to support and vocational guidance to help you design a study plan that is adapted to your needs. Basic adult education courses do not cost anything; they are free. All you need to pay for is your textbooks and other study materials.

What will the basic adult education courses lead to? 

The courses will provide you with the skills you need to participate in society and working life, and will enable you to progress to further studies at intermediate level.

How do I apply for a basic adult education course?

Contact your local adult education service for further information about how to apply and eligibility requirements. The application process is always carried out via the municipality in which you live.

Who is basic adult education for?

You can enrol on basic adult education courses:

  • From 1 July in the year you reach the age of 20.
  • If you lack the skills that children and young people acquire during compulsory schooling.
  • If you live in Sweden and are registered in a municipality.

Komvux – Intermediate adult education

Intermediate adult education is for people who want to supplement their upper secondary level education and gain qualifications to enable them to progress to further education or vocational training.

About the courses

Intermediate adult education involves taking courses at an intermediate level.  The courses correspond to the kind of education provided at gymnasium (upper secondary school) in Sweden, however, the structure of the courses is adapted for adults. You will be encouraged to work more independently and take responsibility for your studies. You can take the courses on a full- or part-time basis, during the day or in the evenings. We offer individual courses or course packages. Your educational goals are determined by your existing level of knowledge, and you decide the pace at which you want to work. You will have access to support and vocational guidance to help you design a study plan that suits you and your goals. Intermediate adult education courses do not cost anything; they are free. All you need to pay for is your textbooks and other study materials.

Intermediate adult education comprises:
  • Intermediate general theory courses
  • Intermediate vocational courses (individual courses or course packages)
  • Trainee positions
What will the intermediate adult education courses lead to?

Intermediate adult education will give you the opportunity to acquire grades in intermediate courses. This will allow you to progress to further study at a vocational college, college or university. An intermediate adult education course also increases your chances of getting a job.

How do I apply for an intermediate adult education course?

Contact your local adult education service for further information about how to apply. The application process is always carried out via the municipality in which you live.

  • From 1 July in the year you reach the age of 20.

In order to qualify you need to:

Vocational training

Gain the skills you need to attract the attention of prospective employers!  What additional skills do you need to get the job you want? We offer several different vocational training courses.

Are you unemployed or at risk of losing your job?

Then you are eligible to study on a vocational course. The aim of the course is to help you get a job, while also providing employers with people who have the right skills. A vocational course is a course that focuses on vocational skills and is offered on behalf of Arbetsförmedlingen (Public Employment Service), but which is provided by an education and training company like us. The kinds of courses that are offered at the moment depend entirely on the current situation on the employment market. Our trainers teach you in a way that suits you best, to help you succeed on your course. We always start from your existing level of knowledge. Our goal is to make your way to work as quick as possible.

Who can enrol on a vocational training course?

If you are registered with Arbetsförmedlingen (Public Employment Service), you will have the opportunity to enrol on the course. Discuss it with your case worker at Arbetsförmedlingen!

Is there any financial support available?

You may be eligible for development allowance (utvecklingsersättning) or activity grant (aktivitetsstöd). Försäkringskassan (Social Insurance Agency) decides on such grants.
